Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Gondar departure and drive to the Simien Mountains
Meet the guide in Gondar and start the journey with a scenic drive through the countryside toward Simien Mountains National Park. After reaching Debark and handling park entry steps, continue to an early viewpoint where the first wildlife sightings and mountain scenery set the tone for the trip.
Debark park entry formalities
Stop in Debark to complete the required park procedures before entering the protected area. This part of the itinerary provides the practical handoff into the national park and helps prepare the group for the highland drive and viewpoint visits that follow.
First viewpoint and wildlife observation
Continue to a scenic overlook for your first extended look at the cliffs and valleys of the Simien Mountains. The area is known for natural gelada baboon sightings, and the guide emphasizes responsible viewing so animals are observed without disturbance.
Overnight in a lodge or camp with mountain views
End the first day at an overnight stay positioned for broad views of the surrounding peaks and slopes. The accommodation is part of the mountain experience, giving you a quieter evening in the highlands before the trekking days ahead.
Day 2: Guided trekking in the park
After breakfast, head out on a guided trek through one of the most scenic parts of the national park. The route follows ridgelines and looks out over deep gorges and dramatic peaks, with enough variety to make the walking feel rewarding without becoming technical.
Wildlife tracking and birdlife watching
Spend the day looking for gelada baboons along the cliffs and Walia ibex on steeper rock faces. Birdlife is abundant in the area, and the guide may also keep an eye out for the rare Ethiopian wolf at higher elevations when conditions are favorable.
Return to lodge or camp in the afternoon
After the trek, head back to your accommodation to rest and enjoy the mountain setting. The afternoon allows time to recover, take in the surroundings, and prepare for the next day’s deeper exploration of the highlands.
