Overview

This 3-day journey links Marrakech and Fes through some of southern Morocco’s most memorable landscapes. Along the way, you cross the High Atlas Mountains, visit the famous ksar of Ait Ben Haddou and continue through oasis towns, gorges and desert scenery that define the route to the Sahara.

The experience includes a camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes and an overnight stay in a private desert camp. You also spend one night in the Dades Valley, giving the trip a comfortable pace while still covering major highlights such as Ouarzazate, Todra Gorge and the Ziz Valley.

Day 1: Departure from Marrakech and crossing the High Atlas

The tour begins with hotel or riad pick-up in Marrakech at around 8:30 in the morning. You travel into the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with pauses for views of mountain scenery and traditional Berber villages along the route.

Day 1: Ait Ben Haddou

You stop at the fortified ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s best-known historic sites. This UNESCO-listed village is known for its earthen architecture and its use as a filming location for major international productions.

Day 1: Ouarzazate

After lunch, the route continues to Ouarzazate, where the itinerary includes seeing the Atlas Film Studios and Taourirt Kasbah. This stretch adds a cinematic and historical dimension to the journey before you continue deeper into southern Morocco.

Day 1: Skoura and the Valley of Roses

In the afternoon, you pass through the Skoura palm grove and the Valley of Roses while following the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. This section of the drive is known for oasis scenery, old kasbahs and a changing desert-edge landscape.

Day 1: Overnight in Dades Valley

The first day ends in the Dades Valley, where you have dinner and spend the night in a hotel overlooking the gorge. This overnight stop breaks up the route and gives you time to relax after a full sightseeing day on the road.

Day 2: Todra Gorge

After breakfast, you drive to Todra Gorge, where steep canyon walls rise dramatically above the road and riverbed. There is time for a short walk, allowing you to appreciate one of the most impressive natural landscapes on the itinerary.

Day 2: Tinghir, Tinejdad and lunch stop

The route continues past palm groves and settlements around Tinghir and Tinejdad. A lunch break is included during this stage of the journey before you head farther east toward the desert region near Merzouga.

The ride between Merzouga and the camp takes around 1.5 hours. Travelers who do not want to ride a camel can use a 4×4 transfer instead.
