Overview
This tour at Hacienda Hipolongo Cruz de Mayo invites you to experience the Andean páramo from the inside, combining nature, culture, and chagra tradition in an authentic experience. The day begins with a welcome at the hacienda, where you will learn about the rural surroundings and the importance of livestock life in the Ecuadorian Andes.
Along the route, you will venture onto mountain trails surrounded by sweeping páramo landscapes, fresh air, and open views that convey a unique sense of freedom. Here you will discover the deep connection between Andean people and the land, while sharing moments with chagra culture, a living symbol of identity in the region.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Departure from Quito and historic center of Ambato
We begin the experience at 07:00 a.m. in Quito, setting off toward the city of Ambato. Upon arrival, we explore its historic center, walking through plazas and streets full of history and tradition. Known as the “City of Flowers and Fruits,” Ambato welcomes us with its living cultural identity and its Andean atmosphere full of color and everyday life
Day 1: Catedral Ice Creams
We enjoy an iconic stop to taste Ambato’s traditional ice creams, a local experience that combines artisanal flavors with a century-old tradition that is part of the city’s identity.
Day 1: Arrival at Hacienda Hipolongo Cruz de Mayo
We head into the Andean landscape until we reach the hacienda, where the chagra experience begins. Here, the welcome, registration, and first contact with the rural life of the Ecuadorian páramo take place.
Quero Church and Andean surroundings
We visit the main church of the Quero canton and its surroundings, a place that reflects the history, spirituality, and traditions of the local communities amid an authentic rural setting.
Day 2: Páramo pine forest
We take a walk through the pine forest located in the upper part of the hacienda, where the open páramo landscape allows for the observation of local wildlife and a deep connection with Andean nature.
Day 2: Chagra experience at the hacienda
We take part in hands-on activities that show the life of the Ecuadorian chagra, including rural practices, contact with animals, and learning about everyday work in the páramo.
Day 3: Farewell to Hacienda Hipolongo
We enjoy one last breakfast at the hacienda before heading back to Quito. This moment marks the end of an immersive experience in chagra culture, the páramo, and rural life in the Ecuadorian Andes.
